PROJECT

McKinley Live-Learn Neighborhood

Creating a model urban education campus linking education to community and job development.

The McKinley Live-Learn Neighborhood Project Management Team (PMT) has many goals to help the area thrive in ways that benefit the neighborhood, high school, and City. This group of community representatives and activists has met monthly for over five years to advocate for a variety of transformative projects.

The PMT was helpful with coordinating discussions with the neighborhood, answering questions of residents, and soliciting support for the new $32 million dollar YMCA, which was given overwhelmingly by the neighborhood. When zoning ordinances were changed in the neighborhood in 2022, the PMT helped convene the neighborhood, answering questions and generating support. The support was shown at the city council meeting by numerous neighborhood residents testifying in favor of the zoning changes. The PMT was instrumental in garnering neighborhood support and establishing design guidelines for upcoming residental townhomes and commercial redevelopment in the area.

Location: McKinley and Whitely neighborhoods

The McKinley Live-Learn Neighborhood is poised for positive change. With improvements at Muncie Central High School and the new YMCA in progress across the street, the area has momentum for residential and retail to flourish as an adjacent mecca of activity to the heart of our downtown.

  • Diverse housing options: Starter homes for young families and first time homeowners, two story townhomes, mixed use housing for college students and healthcare workers, and senior housing.

  • New retail, offices, and businesses where students can intern and apprentice.

  • Additional childcare options
